- 1 cup of mixed lentils (Chana dal, moong dal, and masoor dal)
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1 tablespoon of ginger paste
- 1 tablespoon of garlic paste
- 1 tablespoon of red chili powder
- 1 tablespoon of coriander powder
- 1 tablespoon of cumin powder
- 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder
- Salt to taste
- 4-5 cups of water
- Oil or ghee for cooking
- Chopped coriander leaves for garnishing
- Sliced lemons for serving
Instructions:
- Rinse the broken wheat and lentils in water and soak them in separate bowls for at least 2 hours or overnight.
- In a pressure cooker or heavy-bottomed pot, heat the oil or ghee and fry the onions until they turn golden brown.
- Add the meat and fry for a few minutes until it changes color.
- Add the ginger and garlic paste, chopped tomatoes, and all the spices. Mix well and cook for 2–3 minutes.
- Drain the soaked lentils and add them to the pot along with the broken wheat. Mix well.
- Add 4-5 cups of water, cover the pot, and cook on low heat for 2-3 hours, or until the meat is tender and the lentils and wheat have blended into a thick porridge-like consistency.
- Use a hand blender or mash the halwa with a ladle until it reaches a smooth consistency. Add more water if it's too thick.
- Adjust the salt and spices to taste.
- Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with sliced lemons.
