How to Make Wonton Easy Recipes
Wontons are a type of Chinese dumpling that can be boiled, steamed, or fried. Here's a basic recipe for making wontons:
Ingredients:
- Wonton wrappers (which can be found in most Asian grocery stores)
- 1/2 pound ground pork or shrimp (or a combination of both)
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon Shaoxing wine (or dry sherry)
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 2 green onions, finely chopped
- 1 egg white
- Water
Instructions:
-
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground pork or shrimp with soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, ginger, sesame oil, sugar, garlic, and green onions. Mix well to combine.
-
Crack the egg and separate the yolk from the white. Reserve the yolk for another use. Beat the egg white in a small bowl and set aside.
-
Lay a wonton wrapper on a flat surface and place a heaping teaspoon of the pork or shrimp filling in the center of the wrapper.
-
Dip a finger into the beaten egg white and run it along the edges of the wrapper.
-
Fold the wrapper in half to form a triangle, pressing the edges together to seal.
-
Bring the two corners of the triangle together and press them firmly to seal.
-
Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.
-
To cook the wontons, bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add the wontons, a few at a time, and cook for 3-5 minutes, or until they float to the surface and the filling is cooked through.
-
With a slotted spoon, take out the cooked wontons and put them on a plate.
-
Serve the wontons hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as soy sauce or chili oil.
Note: You can also steam or fry the wontons if you prefer. To steam, place the wontons in a steamer basket and steam for 5–7 minutes. To fry, heat oil in a deep fryer or a heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F and fry the wontons until golden brown and crispy, about 2–3 minutes.
