How to Make Wonton Easy Recipes

Wontons are a type of Chinese dumpling that can be boiled, steamed, or fried. Here's a basic recipe for making wontons:

Ingredients:

  • Wonton wrappers (which can be found in most Asian grocery stores)
  • 1/2 pound ground pork or shrimp (or a combination of both)
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Shaoxing wine (or dry sherry)
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 egg white
  • Water

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground pork or shrimp with soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, ginger, sesame oil, sugar, garlic, and green onions. Mix well to combine.

  2. Crack the egg and separate the yolk from the white. Reserve the yolk for another use. Beat the egg white in a small bowl and set aside.

  3. Lay a wonton wrapper on a flat surface and place a heaping teaspoon of the pork or shrimp filling in the center of the wrapper.

  4. Dip a finger into the beaten egg white and run it along the edges of the wrapper.

  5. Fold the wrapper in half to form a triangle, pressing the edges together to seal.

  6. Bring the two corners of the triangle together and press them firmly to seal.

  7. Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.

  8. To cook the wontons, bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add the wontons, a few at a time, and cook for 3-5 minutes, or until they float to the surface and the filling is cooked through.

  9. With a slotted spoon, take out the cooked wontons and put them on a plate.

  10. Serve the wontons hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as soy sauce or chili oil.

Note: You can also steam or fry the wontons if you prefer. To steam, place the wontons in a steamer basket and steam for 5–7 minutes. To fry, heat oil in a deep fryer or a heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F and fry the wontons until golden brown and crispy, about 2–3 minutes.
